A New Home Screen

—September 23rd, 2009—

Geoff Teehan envisions a new home screen for the iPhone.

It’s definitely an improvement over what we have now, but such a data-dense view doesn’t seem ideal. It may create too much mental load — calendar dates, emails, missed calls, and news all on one screen. What I enjoy about the iPhone, versus the desktop, is it’s one-application focused. When you open an application, that’s all you need to think about. There isn’t a bunch of stuff happening on the screen at the same time. By limiting what’s on screen at a time to one application, the iPhone allows you to focus on just that application.
