iPhoto ‘09 points to iPhone GPS geotagging for regular cameras:
The unused window discovered within iPhoto ‘09 hints at the ability to tag photos with location data from any camera based on the time or day when the picture was taken. The window prompts users to select an iPhone or iPod touch, and mentions the transfer of location data to photos in selected iPhoto events, which would be a rather useful feature.
Basically, an application will run in the background all day, and record your location. When you import photos from your non-GPS camera into iPhoto, it takes the time stamp (using the geotagging application), checks where you were at that time, and tags the photos with the appropriate position data.
It’s a smart idea, but my question is, wouldn’t this kill your battery if it is using GPS all day?
And I’m sure the paranoid among us will have issues with this, but nonetheless, I’m glad Apple is thinking of unique uses of GPS besides navigation.
